What Are Letters of Credit Used For?
A Letter of Credit is a formal assurance issued by one bank to another — locally or internationally — guaranteeing that payment will be made to a designated seller once the agreed conditions of a transaction are met. It gives both buyers and suppliers confidence that the trade will be completed securely.
To apply for a Letter of Credit, you will need:
- A formal request or application letter
- A signed agreement or contract with your supplier
- A well-maintained current account with at least 6 months of activity
- Details of the goods or products being financed
- Information on warehousing arrangements
- Acceptable security or collateral
- The required minimum contribution of 30%
- Type of Letter of Credit requested (Confirmed / Unconfirmed)
- Beneficiary bank details
